Jimmy, “J.D.” Stowers, 73, of Hereford, Texas passed away on Sunday, March 1, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

A Memorial Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home with Kirk Sparkman officiating. Burial of Cremains will follow at West Park Cemetery under the direction of Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home.

Jimmy “J.D.” was born to Jesse and Erma (Rury) Stowers on June 21, 1952, in Friona Texas. On March 13, 1970, he married Janet (Melton) in Friona, Texas. J.D. has resided in Hereford for four decades, during which time he has been actively involved in various aspects of the trucking industry.

J.D. was raised on a farm and, soon after turning 18, bought his first truck, sparking a lifelong passion for trucking. He also worked for Reiter Trucking as a dispatcher. J.D. was an animal lover. He cherished time with his family, shooting and collecting guns, and loved cooking outdoors preparing a good steak. J.D. was particular about keeping his vehicles spotless and took great pride in having a nice yard. In his younger years, he enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson.

Those left to cherish his memories are his wife Janet Stowers of Hereford, Texas; daughters Tammy Valdez and husband Jesse and Jennifer Brumley both of Hereford, Texas; four grandchildren, Spur Valdez and his wife Kayla of LiveOak Florida, Jesse Fry and her husband Garrett of Moriarty New Mexico, Cale Brumley and his wife Elizabeth of Hereford, Texas, and JaDee Brumley of Hereford, Texas; three great grandchildren, Addison Brumley, Blaize Fry, and Sterlyn Valdez; and his loyal companion Pomeranian, Bella; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Erma Stowers, two brothers Roy Lee and Bobby Stowers, sister Nina Jean “Sissy” Shanabarger, and sonin-law Caleb Brumley.
