Sales tax receipts up slightly in May, June

Sales tax receipts for the Hereford Economic Development Corporation for May and June were both up somewhat but may prove “nip and tuck” to meet the amount budgeted for the current fiscal year budget according to the latest sales tax comparison presented at the July 1 meeting of the body.

ALL AMERICAN CELEBRATION

The Great United States and Deaf Smith County USA celebrated the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence with a gathering of patriots of all ages along Main Street and Dameron Park in Hereford on Saturday, July 4.
'OOMPAH' SOUND-- The Havlak “oompah” Polka Band was brought in from Rowena, Texas to perform at the first couple of Nazareth German Festivals in 1973 and 1974 and stirred the crowd in attendance to dance.

While tax abatements and reinvestment zones were the main order of business at their June 23 regular meeting, county commissioners also turned their attention to a threat to the local and state livestock industry with a local disaster declaration concerning the New World Screwworm.

Their proficiency with rifles came naturally, as the skill was required to put food on the table and to defend their homes. As the country moved forward, these skilled hunters would also become passionate conservationists.
