PASSING OF THE GAVEL-It was a changing of the guard at the March 24 as county commissioners voted unanimously to designate Alma Mancinas, left, as acting Justice of the Peace effective April 1 with the retirement of Karen Boren, right, as Justice of the Peace effective March 31. Mrs. Mancinas has worked with Mrs. Boren for 10 years and was unopposed in the March 3 Primary election.

LAYING DOWN THE BIG GAVEL--Karen Boren is retiring from office as Justice of the Peace for Deaf Smith County effective Tuesday, March 31 and will be honored with a reception from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. that day on the third floor of the Deaf Smith County Courthouse. Mrs. Boren, the lady of the law north and south of the Tierra Blanca, has served just under 41 years in law enforcement and as a JP in Deaf Smith County. (Photo by Jim Steiert)

HISD details 65 and Over Tax Impact of proposed high school bond
Congratulations to Hereford ISD’s amazing bus drivers Lucia Marquez, Esther Aguellon, Amanda Cisneros and Teresa Aguellon for representing HISD at the PAPT Bus Road-eo in Canyon. Thank you to bus aide Josh Torres for stepping up to volunteer. Results included Lucia Marquez winning 1st place, and Esther Aguellon earning second place. Both are headed to STATE on April 25 in Houston. HISD praised the team for driving excellence every single day.
