PROMPTING PUSHBACK--Construction of large data centers in widespread areas of Texas is beginning to stir pushback from residents. Misgivings are arising about giving huge tax breaks to “billionaire big guys” while the basic taxpayer can’t get any consideration.
There’s a cringe factor in the words tax abatement. Put-upon local taxpayers wonder what’s the long-term benefit to them from tax payment postponements for “big guys” to attract wind and solar energy and data centers locally, statewide and nationally.
