CD Fitzgearld

CD Fitzgearld, 85, of Dimmitt, Texas, went to be with the Lord on November 10, 2025.

CD was born on August 29, 1940 in Greenville, Texas. He was the second of three children to Levita and CD Fitzgearld Sr. He graduated from Hereford High School in 1959 and went on to a career in Law Enforcement.

CD met Linda Russell, the love of his life, at Hereford High School. They were married on June 24, 1960 and lived a happy, fulfilling life together for over 65 years. CD and Linda had two children, Crystal and Curt.

CD was a longtime beloved member of First Baptist Church Dimmitt.

CD tried his hand at many jobs until he found his true calling in Law Enforcement. He spent 25 years issuing driver’s licenses with the Department of Public Safety. After retiring from DPS, CD ran for Sheriff and served Castro County for four terms. Due to health issues, he retired at the end of the fourth term. Upon retirement, he was honored as a Special Texas Ranger.

CD enjoyed many various hobbies. He raised exotic birds such as pheasant and quail. He handcrafted beautiful and unique knives. CD was incredibly talented. Many of you may not know how skilled he was as an artist.

CD loved hunting. During his time with DPS, CD distinguished himself as an excellent marksman. He won numerous awards for his shooting skills throughout the years.

A true outdoorsman, CD also loved fishing. He always talked about and looked forward to his Canadian fishing trips with his buddies.

CD had a soft spot for kids. He absolutely loved and showed great affection for children. In fact, CD loved people. He was joyous, funny and always the biggest character in the room. In a life filled with serving and protecting both his community and his family, his legacy is one of love. Love for family, love for friends and love for God.

CD was preceded in death by father CD Fitzgearld Sr, mother Levita Fitzgearld, older sister Melba Jean Starr and younger brother Billy Wayne Fitzgearld.

CD is survived by his wife Linda Jauniece Fitzgearld, daughter Crystal McMains and husband Larry of Newcastle, Oklahoma, and son Curt Fitzgearld and wife Trisha of Gruver, Texas. Four grandchildren: Misti Rahbar and husband Brandon of Edmond, Oklahoma, Clint Howell and wife Laura of Newcastle, Oklahoma, Laci Sutton and husband Chris of Early, Texas and Blake Fitzgearld and wife Katie of Spearman, Texas. Ten great grandchildren: Reed and Henley Howell, Chance, Cole and Cannon Sutton, Aubrey and Wyatt Rahbar, and Zachariah, James and Analise Fitzgearld.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church 1201 Western Circle Drive Dimmitt, TX 79027 A Celebration of Life Service honoring CD will be on Friday, November 14, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the First Baptist Church of Dimmitt, with Dr. Johnathan Sullivan and Pastor Scott Curry officiating. Burial to follow at Castro Memorial Gardens Cemetery under the personal care and direction of Colonial Funeral Home of Dimmitt. A Family and Friend Visitation will be on Thursday evening from 5:007:00 PM at the funeral home.
