Alvina Gerber, 95 of Nazareth, Texas, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2023, in Dimmitt, Texas. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, Nov.4, at 10 a.m. at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Nazareth, with Celebrants Nick Gerber and Arokiaraj Samala and Deacons Bob Birkenfeld and Joe Hochstein. Burial to follow at Holy Family Cemetery. Arrangements and services have been entrusted to Colonial Funeral Home of Dimmitt, Texas. Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Nazareth.

Alvina has been a longtime resident of 90 years in Nazareth. She was born onAug. 13, 1928, in St. Helena, Nebraska, to Theodore and Elizabeth (Brand) Schmucker. Alvina took much pride in being a homemaker, raising her children, and caring for her husband and her son, Paul. She enjoyed baking and was known for her famous coffee cake; she loved playing 31, praying the rosary often, visiting on the phone, and was always ready to go and socialize with family and friends. Alvina took much satisfaction in cleaning the Holy Family Catholic Church for many years. She was a devoted member of the Holy Family Catholic Church, the Christian Mothers Society, and the Nazareth Senior Citizens. Alvina’s contagious smile and laughter will be missed by all those who love her.

Those left to cherish her memories are her children, Connie Backus and her husband Fritz of Hereford, Texas, Mark Gerber, Mick Gerber and his wife Jane, and Joel Gerber and his wife Mary Beth, all of Nazareth; 12 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; a sister-inlaw, Jerri Gerber of Canyon, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Alvina is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leonard Gerber; two sons, Paul and Roger Gerber; a daughterin- law, Glenda Gerber; two sisters, Louise Braddock and Hilda Duer; and a brother, Lawrence Schmucker.
