Charlie Lane, 72, a lifelong resident of Dimmitt, Texas, passed away on Monday, July 7, 2025, in Oklahoma City.
Charlie was born on Jan. 1, 1953, in Littlefield, Texas, to Samuel and Ollie (Haywood) Lane. He grew up in Dimmitt, attended school, and graduated from Dimmitt High School in 1971. In his early 20s, he worked as a mechanic and welder on the Trans-Alaska pipeline. Charlie married Mary Alice (Emery) on Oct. 11, 1980, then began his 45-year career in dirt construction in 1981. He started his own business, Lane Dirt Company, in 1985. Charlie humbly served his community as a firefighter for the Dimmitt Fire Department for 42 years, earning many honors and titles. In his younger years, Charlie enjoyed participating in Taekwondo. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, attending their activities and sports, and enjoyed dirt track racing and gambling. Charlie was hardworking and loved his family enormously.
Those left to carry on his legacy are his wife, Mary Alice Lane of Dimmitt, children, Corey Lane of Dimmitt, Holly Beam and husband Wade of Canyon, Texas, and Bradley Lane of Dimmitt; three grandchildren, Cale, Cooper, and Harper Beam; sisters, Rosanelle Rains of Monahans, Texas, Frances Gatz of Midwest City, Oklahoma, and Sammy Kay Schumacher of Hereford, Texas; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Ollie Lane; and two brothers, Jim and Bill Lane.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday, July 14, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Methodist Church in Dimmitt with the Reverend W.R. Rains. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Dimmitt under the direction of Colonial Funeral Home. Viewing and Visitation will be on Sunday, July 13, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dimmitt Fire Department in memory of Charlie.
