Robert Dewayne “Dewey” Robbins, 83, passed away on Thursday, August 20, 2026, in Oklahoma.
Dewayne was born on October 14, 1942, in Caddo County, Oklahoma, to Robert Joe Robbins and Melva Madeline Kidd Robbins. He proudly served his country in the United States Army.
Dewayne shared 58 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Carolyn Florence Nikkel Robbins, before her passing in 2024.
For more than 25 years, Dewayne worked in the transportation department of the Hereford Independent School District. As a mechanic at the place everyone knew as “the bus barn,” he helped keep the district’s buses running and became a familiar and trusted part of the Hereford community.
Dewayne had a remarkable talent for rebuilding cars and trucks and for working with horses. He loved watching the Dallas Cowboys, the San Antonio Spurs, and old Westerns. He also enjoyed bowling, playing cards, Sequence, and Aggravation—the marble game. Among his favorite treats were Wienerschnitzel and Nutter Butter cookies.
His children and grandchildren agree that he made the very best cinnamon toast. They will also fondly remember hearing him exclaim, “Ah, bull!” whenever one of his teams was losing.
Dewayne is survived by his son, Bob and Martha Robbins, of São Paulo, Brazil; his daughter, Cande and Randall Hodges, of Mead, Oklahoma; his sisters, Patsy Evans and JoAn Stafford; his grandchildren, including Duncan, Kennan, Emmy, Kaitlyn, Kevin, and Cammie; and great-grandchildren Denver, Knox, Tripp, Scotlyn, Henrietta, and Caden.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn; his parents, Robert Joe and Melva Robbins; and his sisters Mary Clifton and Barbara Kay Bennett.
A memorial service for family and friends will be planned and announced at a later date.
