Gertie Frances Waggoner, 98 of Dimmitt, Texas, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2023, in Dimmitt.

Celebration of Life Service will be held at the First Baptist Church on Monday, Nov. 13, 2023, at 2 p.m. with Dr. Jonathan Sullivan officiating. Burial will follow at Castro Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Funeral Services have been entrusted to Colonial Funeral Home of Dimmitt. Visitation will be on Sunday, Nov. 12, from 4 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.

Gertie was born to Robert William Ball and Gracie Ardella (Taylor) Ball on July 29, 1925, in Illinois Bend, Texas. She grew up in Olton, Texas, and graduated from Olton High School class of 1942. Gertie got on a train to California to meet the love of her life J. Paul Waggoner.

Immediately, the two knew they were forever soul mates and decided to get married on January 31, 1943, in Yuma, Arizona, while J. Paul was actively serving in the Navy. They shortly after moved back to Castro County and made it their home. Gertie dedicated her life to her family, taking much pride in being a homemaker, while her husband was farming. She was an active and devoted member at the First Baptist Church of Dimmitt, and an active member of the Plains Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Gertie enjoyed listening to music and was amazing at cooking “she cooked.” Gertie’s sweet smile and uplifting personality will be missed by all those who loved her dearly.

Those left to cherish her memories are her children, Mickey Lee Waggoner and his wife Darlene of Indian Springs, Ohio, Jimmy Doyle Waggoner of Lubbock, Texas; grandchildren, Jason Paul Waggoner and his wife Timra of Ohio, Stacy Chad Waggoner and his wife Jessica of Dumas, Texas, Jana Renee Tomlinson of Amarillo, Texas, Julie Waggoner of California, Kodi Michelle Brito of Amarillo, Texas; 11 greatgrandchildren, one greatgreat- grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Gracie Ball; and her siblings, Randall Ball, Wauline Little, Johnnie McMillen, Garner Ball and Doyle Ball.
