I traveled to Dallas this past weekend to go homecoming dress shopping with Lillian. It is hard to believe that she is already a high school freshman. We were very lucky to find a dress at the first place we went. She is a quick shopper and not so difficult to please.

Abiding In ChristJesus said, “Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing” (John 15:5). Jesus used a simple but powerful word to describe the relationship He wants us to have with Him: abide.

God’s Patient AppealApostle Peter said, “God is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance” (2 Peter 3:9). If God wanted to condemn humankind for sin, He could have done so the very moment sin entered the world.

King David said, “The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork” (Psalm 19:1). Every day we are surrounded by evidence that points beyond itself.

Jude said, “But you, dear friends, build yourselves up in your most holy faith” (Jude 20). Jude reminds his friends in Christ that false teachers, scoffers, and faithless people would come into the church and try to divide and tear them down.

Moses said, “Know therefore that the LORD your God is God; He is the faithful God, keeping His covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love Him and keep His commands” (Deuteronomy 7:9).The original word translated as “faithful” conveys the concept of being trustworthy.

JEANETTE’S VIGNETTES

This past week I enjoyed walking around the square and having food from several of the food trucks. That is something I look forward to each year. There is always someone to visit with while standing in line waiting for the food.

Solomon said, “Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life” (Proverbs 4:23). What is our heart? First, we will state the obvious: this article is not about the heart as a vital organ, a muscle that pumps blood throughout the body.

Apostle Peter said, “He (God) did not spare the ancient world, but preserved Noah, a preacher of righteousness, with seven others” (2 Peter 2:5). Noah’s world is described as being corrupt in the sight of God, and the earth was filled with violence.
