County approves auxiliary court sites

The Castro County Commissioners Court met Monday and approved a resolution for auxiliary sites to be used as courtrooms.

Resolution No. 2-08-21-1 was approved designating the Castro County Expo Center as an Auxiliary Courts Building for use by the 242nd and 64th District Court, and Castro County and Justice Court of Castro County.

The resolution will be in effect until 60 days after the expiration of the Emergency Orders issued by the Texas Supreme Court or further order of the Commissioners Court, whichever is earlier.

On going court proceedings were disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic and efforts to move forward will be enhanced by auxiliary sites where safety measures can be adhered to.

In other business, the county tabled acting on the Burn Ban until the next meeting as commissioners watch the situation in the area.

Commissioners also received a report from the new County VSO, Rey Burmea, Army veteran who began Jan. 2. Burmea replaced Donna Charanza who retired after serving many years.
