Harvest Days Kicks Off Aug. 27

The Castro County Harvest Days celebration is just around the corner and promises to be the best yet with a full schedule of events on Aug. 27.

At 9 a.m. there will be fair exhibits at Rhoads Memorial Library; quilters and retired teachers will be at the Gathering Place; and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., booths and vendors will be located at the courthouse.

The Harvest Days Parade will begin at 10 a.m. and Best of Parade awards will be announced at 11 a.m. at the courthouse.

A lot of kids’ activities also begin at 11 a.m. with jumpers, the Castro County train, kids’ games and face painting at the courthouse, as well as Brenda Bruton Cow Patty Bingo.

Candidates for the Harvest Days Pageant will be presented at 1 p.m. at the Gazebo at the courthouse. The junior divisions winners will be crowned at 7:15 p.m. with the Harvest Queen Coronation at 8 p.m. Entry categories include Infant Miss Harvest Princess (0-2); Toddler/Petite Miss Harvest Princess (3-5); Elementary/ Little Miss Harvest (6-10); Middle School/Jr. Miss Harvest (11-13); and High School/Miss Harvest Queen (14-18).

Entries are being accepted through Aug. 15. All children will receive prizes for their involvement. The pageant is sponsored by the Walking G Stampede.

For some music entertainment, The Hazels will be performing at The Gathering Place at 6 p.m.

To round out a big day of celebration, the Harvest Days Street Dance and queen coronation will begin at 8 p.m. on the stage east of the courthouse. Sponsored by the Walking G Guesthouse, performers will include Logan Samford and Case & Fowler.
