Construction has begun on the new Dimmitt ISD sports complex.

In late October 2020, the DISD school board approved a $2.9 million contract with Hellas Construction Inc. for renovations at the baseball and softball park.

The facility and ball fields have been a state of disrepair for several years and this will offer DISD athletes a vast improvement over the previous situation, as well as family and fans.

The contract includes construction/renovation of the baseball and softball parks, two tennis courts, bleachers with canopy, concession stand, restrooms, press boxes, batting cages, fencing and paved parking.

Thus far, Hellas has removed the old buildings and bleachers and dirt work is underway.

While the project was set to be completed on Feb. 14, that remains to be seen with the date only a month away and baseball and softball season approaching.

While Hellas was the only company to submit a bid on the project, they are considered one of the top sports construction companies. Since the company’s inception, Hellas has managed to impact more than 5 million students across the nation, including many in Texas high schools.

Dimmitt Bobcats baseball season is set to kick off on Feb. 8 with a scrimmage in Tulia, followed by more scrimmages at Roosevelt and alumni scrimmages. The preseason games will begin on Feb. 22 against Floydada with a home games for the JV and- Varsity teams. District games begin on March 30.

The Dimmitt Bobbies will have scrimmages at Canadian starting on Feb. 6, followed by more against Sunray and Hereford. The Bobbies first pre-season game will be an away game against Sundown on Feb. 16. District play will kick off on March 23.

As with all sports up to now this school year, schedules may be subject to change due to any COVID-19 outbreaks.
