Nazareth’s Chloe Birkenfeld recently won the Lone Star Journalism Writing contest co-sponsored by the Interscholastic League Press Conference and Texas Press Association.

Birkenfeld, the editor and writer for Nazareth’s Paw Prints, received first place in the Small School Division (1A-3A) with an article she wrote about Charley Hill that was featured in the Paw Prints.

The contest is designed specifically for journalism students throughout Texas. A student will write a general interest feature and then submit the article for publication in the local paper with a deadline of Nov. 15, 2022.

First place in each category received a $125 cash prize, second place, a $100 cash prize and third place, a $75 cash prize. Since UIL Academics does not have an amateur rule, students may participate in this contest as well as participate in UIL journalism or any academic contest.
