Bumps in the road are not the road itself

For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. 1 John 5:4 “As long as you are breathing God has a plan for your life,” said my guest, Lyndie as I interviewed her for my radio program. “You’re never too old. God always has something new for you. Never give up. The bumps in the road are not the road,” she said. Now in my sixties, I can relate many stories of the bumpy roads that I’ve travelled. Perhaps like me, you know what it’s like to be criticized. You know what it’s like to lose opportunity and face a seemingly empty future. I have faced financial difficulty, illness and loss. You see, God never promised us a smooth road on the great trek of life. We are not called to traverse a wide and easy path. Jesus told us that the gate is narrow, and the way is difficult which leads to life. He said, “In the world, you will have tribulation,” but then he added, “Be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” No matter your age, Jesus will never leave your side. He sits beside you in the carriage as you bump along the roads of life. God’s promise to you is, “I know the plans I have for you; plans for well-being, peace and blessing.” You’re never too old to discover God’s plans. Indeed, as long as you are breathing God has a plan for your life. Therefore, be of good cheer, Jesus has overcome the bumps in the road you’re traveling. And this is the victory that overcomes, even your faith in God’s plans. God has something new for you. Just, keep going. Never give up. Look up and remember, the bumps in the road are not the road.
