The Dallas Police Department arrested two men in connection a fatal shooting in March after interviewing Dallas Cowboys cornerback Kelvin Joseph who was a person of interest.

The DPD were seeking an interview this past week with the Dallas player about his involvement in the shooting. Following the interview, Tivione English, 21, and Aries Jones, 28, both of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, were arrested and face a murder charge in connection with the shooting death of Cameron Ray on March 18.

Both men surrendered Sunday to police and were taken to the Dallas County Jail.

According to reports, Joseph was involved in a disturbance on March 18 outside a bar in the 3600 block of Greenville Avenue, at Martel Avenue - the same night that Cameron Ray, 20 from Athens, Texas, was fatally shot there around 2 a.m. outside OT Tavern. He was taken to a hospital, where he died.

The Dallas police have surveillance video of an altercation with Ray and his friends. Police said Joseph and Ray were out with separate groups of friends . The video footage of the fight shows one of the people involved in the altercation wearing a YKDV necklace. Joseph goes by the rap name “YKDV Bossman Fat,” according to ESPN. Joseph has also released rap songs under the name YKDV Bossman Fat, which, additionally, is his handle on Twitter and Instagram.

After the fight ended, English and Jones entered a black SUV parked nearby. Shortly later, as Ray and his friends were walking, a black SUV drove by and people inside shot at the other group. Ray was struck in the head and later died at the hospital.

Joseph’s attorney, Barry Sorrels, said the Cowboys’ defensive back was a passenger in the vehicle from which gunshots were fired, but said he was not the shooter., stating that “(Kelvin) found himself in a situation that escalated without his knowledge or consent.”

As of Saturday, Joseph had not been arrested. Dallas police had not indicated whether they plan to seek charges against him. Legally, Texas’ law of parties could mean that anyone in the SUV at the time of the shooting could face the same charges as the gunmen.

A statement from the Dallas Cowboys organization said, "The Dallas Cowboys are aware of the tragic incident that occurred in Dallas on March 18. First and foremost, our hearts go out to Mr. Ray’s family and loved ones. The organization is aware of Kelvin Joseph’s possible connection to this incident. We are in contact with Dallas law enforcement and have alerted the NFL office. We have no further comment at this time."

The NFL commented, saying, "The matter is under review of the league's personal conduct policy."

Joseph was a second-round draft pick by the Cowboys in 2021. He played college football at both LSU and Kentucky. During his rookie season with Dallas, he played mostly on special teams but was a starter later in the year.

Joseph played in 16 games and had 13 solo tackles and two passes defended.
