Dallas suffers severe flooding

Governor Greg Abbott declared a state of disaster in Dallas County after a day of deadly rainfall.

After severely dry summer, the sudden rainfall early Monday morning made it the second-wettest August on record early Monday morning.

Many parts of North Texas received record rainfall bringing with it flooding that left people stranded and vehicles sucked into currents and deep water.

In Mesquite, drivers were swallowed by rising water on the freeway and below. Swift water teams went into action to rescue many.

The swift water team put the boat in the water. Some folks walked out with bags of belongings.

Downtown Dallas and East Dallas were hit especially See FLOODING on page 2 hard. Fort Worth and Ellis County also saw some flash flooding.

One stranded driver was rescued by a FOX Weather crew in Downtown Dallas .as her car was sinking into the water. A weather reporter spotted her and was able to pull her out through a window and get her to safety.

A lot of people on their way to work early Monday morning got caught in heavy rain. Flooding brought traffic to a standstill in some areas near I30 near Downtown and many cars and trucks end up stuck in water, with drives getting out and waiting for help.

Dallas Fire-Rescue reported between 6 p.m. on Sunday and 1:37 p.m. on Monday they responded to 195 high water incidents and 39 water rescues.

Fort Worth police said between 8 p.m. Sunday and 5 a.m. Monday, it responded to 53 calls related to water emergencies.

Both DFW Airport and Love Field were dealing with cancellations and delays. Weather and a power outage impacted four American Airlines gates. There were more than 250 flights canceled in and out of DFW on Monday and more than 900 delays.
