The 2021 crop year, despite a dry start, turned out surprisingly well for High Plains cotton producers with an expected uptick in both prices and yields. Now, what’s in store for 2022?

The crop outlook and more will be topics for the Deaf Smith County Cotton Conference on Tuesday, Feb. 15, at the Deaf Smith County Extension Service Nita Lea Building, 903 East 14th Street in Hereford from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The program will get underway with a Cotton Marketing Update for 2022 from Dr. John Robinson, cotton marketing specialist in Agricultural Economics, Texas A&M University.

Those in attendance will hear from Dr. Jourdan Bell, Extension Agronomist, on 2021 Cotton Variety Trials at 10 a.m.

At 11 a.m., all-important Cotton Weed Management Systems for 2022 will be discussed by Dr. Peter Dotray, Texas Tech Professor, Crop and Soil Science. Dotray will cover options for producers who may find challenges in obtaining the chemicals the would normally use.

Following a noon lunch break, Estate Planning Issues will be covered by Tiffany Dowell Lashmet, Extension Specialist in Agricultural Law, at 1 p.m.
