Hypocrites, Serpents, Snakes!

Most are familiar with the term road rage. Anger behind the wheel is dangerous; at times it proves to be deadly. The Bible speaks of Jesus’ righteous anger.

Yes, He got angry.

Sensing Jesus’ anger, profiteers may have tried to escape His wrath.

“Now the Passover of the Jews was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. And He found in the temple those who sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the money changers doing business. When He had made a whip of cords, He drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and the oxen, and poured out the changers’ money and overturned the tables. And He said to those who sold doves, ‘Take these things away! Do not make My Father’s house a house of merchandise!’ Then His disciples remembered that it was written, ‘Zeal for Your house has eaten Me up (John 2:13-17 NKJV).”

In righteous anger, Jesus called people bad names; names like hypocrites, serpents, snakes!

“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you build the tombs of the prophets and adorn the monuments of the righteous, and say, ‘If we had lived in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.’

‘Therefore you are witnesses against yourselves that you are sons of those who murdered the prophets. Fill up, then, the measure of your fathers’ guilt. Serpents, brood of vipers! How can you escape the condemnation of hell (Matthew 23:29-33 NKJV)?”

Angry and rightfully so; yet, He doesn’t want any to be lost.

“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 6:23 NKJV).”
