That is the book blurb for “Drop Dead Dallas,” a recent release by Amarillo author Kim Black. She is scheduled to be the guest speaker at Dimmitt Book Club’s meeting set for Wednesday, April 12, in the meeting room here at Rhoads Memorial Library. Open to the public, the meeting will commence at 2 p.m.

Black will be highlighting her creative process as she has authored several mysteries, children’s books, and Christian books. Released Jan. 1, “Drop Dead Dallas” is set in the historic district of downtown Dallas, Texas. “The story is inspired by the classic noir novels and movies of the 1930s and ’40s and strives for the same light touch as “The Thin Man” series, according to the book blurb.

Newly Newly released books that have arrived and are ready for checkout include: -”Desolation Creek” (a Smoke Jensen novel of the West) by William W. Johnstone and J.A. Johnstone; -”On the Line” (a novel of suspense) by Fern Michaels; -”Once Upon a Buggy” (the Amish of Apple Creek) by Shelley Shepard Gray.

Other new releases include: -”You Will Never Be Found” by Tove Alsterdal and Alice Menzies, is hailed by People Magazine as “Nordic noir at its best.” The novel follows Swedish Detective Eira Sjodin as she tries to find whoever is behind the disappearance of two men in the area north of the Arctic Circle. One of them is her GG, her lover and her boss.

-”The Three Lives of Alix St. Pierre” by Natasha Lester, features Alix St. Pierre, an orphan who grew up surrounded by Hollywood glamor. She lands a job recruiting women into the workforce in 1943, then becomes a spy sent to Switzerland at the behest of the U.S. government. After WWII, she works for the House of Dior, enjoying the glamorous halls of French fashion. Then a figure from the past reappears, threatening to destroy her future...
