Excitement is building... the much-anticipated “Atlas: The Story of Pa Salt” is set to be released next week and should arrive here at Rhoads Memorial Library shortly thereafter. The book is by the late Lucinda Riley and her son, Harry Whittaker, and is the eighth and final installment in Riley’s much beloved Seven Sisters series.

The new release will focus on the young boy, Pa Salt, who is taken in by a kindly family in Paris in 1928, when he is near death. He flourishes and, as a young man, falls in love and takes classes at the prestigious Conservatoire de Paris. But Evil is rising in Europe, no one is safe, and he knows he must flee again.

Fast forward to 2008, when his seven daughters gather in the Aegean to pay homage to their beloved Pa; of them, it is the one known as the missing sister who he has entrusted with clues to everyone’s past. With each revelation, they realize that their adored father is someone they barely knew. Even more surprising, these longburied secrets may have consequences for them even today.

As for new releases that are already here awaiting checkout, they include: -”Homestead”, a debut novel by Melinda Moustakis, is set in Anchorage, Alaska in 1956. It follows Marie and Lawrence, who marry within days of meeting one another. They work the land in an attempt to secure a deed to their homestead while facing everything they didn’t know about each other. As the Territory of Alaska moves toward statehood, will they create something new or break apart trying?

-”I Have Some Questions for You” by Rebecca Makkai features Bodie Kane, a successful film professor and podcaster who is content to forget her past: the family tragedy during her adolescence, four miserable years at a New Hampshire boarding school, and the murder of her former roommate, Thalia.

But when she returns to Granby School to teach a course, Bodie must confront her past while determining whether Thalia’s real killer was convicted, or is the true culprit still at large? “I have Some Questions for You” is listed as one of the Most Anticipated Books of 2023 by such publications as Time, NPR, USA Today, Elle, Newsweek, Salon, Good Housekeeping, and more.

Here’s a reminder that Dimmitt Book Club will convene at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 10, at West Texas Coffee. The Dutch Treat luncheon is the final meeting of the club year.

We are making plans for this year’s summer reading program for youngsters, which will be held June 1 - July 28. Stay tuned for details.

Until next week, Happy Reading!
