The Dimmitt Area Retired School Personnel Association is giving away free books at Rhodes Memorial Library during the month of June and July for children ages 2 to 12. Youth should sign up for the Summer Reading Program and receive two free books each they come to in to check out books. The project is a part of the Texas Retired Teachers Association Children’s Book Project, which began in 1998, and involves TRTA local chapter members in giving books to children who might not otherwise have books of their own. Since its inception, the book project has placed more than 900,000 books into the hands of children. In 2021, 117,850 books were distributed as a part of the TRTA project.
