“What About That Christmas Hymn?” was the program presented at the recent Dimmitt Book Club meeting held here at Rhoads Memorial Library. Mary Ruth Baird was a last-minute fill-in program presenter when the original speaker was sidelined by inclement weather.

Club members named a yuletide hymn and Baird offered interesting facts about the composer and the song. The next Dimmitt Book Club meeting is scheduled for Feb. 14, 2024.

English as a Second Language (ESL) classes are taking a holiday but will return early in the new year. According to class leader, Gloria Hernandez, classes will resume Jan. 9, 2024.

If you need a break from holiday festivities, following are some newly released books that have arrived and are ready for checkout: -”The Second Stranger” (a novel) by Martin Griffin. Critics call this read “an electric, locked-room suspense thriller set in the remote Scottish Highlands, where icy temperatures and a terrible blizzard prevent any ideas of escape.”

-”The Other Half” by Charlotte Vassell is touted as “a stunning debut from your next favorite mystery writer.” Rupert’s 30th birthday party is a black-tie dinner, served with cocaine and expensive champagne. The next morning, his girlfriend Clemmie is found murdered, a single stiletto heel jutting from under a bush.

Who killed Clemmie? The wealthy London partygoers all have alibis, and their wealth, privilege, and connections threaten to shut down the investigation before it starts. Can Detective Caius Beauchamp solve the case before the case is wrested from him?

Here’s a reminder that we will close at noon on Friday, Dec. 22, and remain closed through Tuesday, Dec. 26, for the Christmas holiday. We will re-open at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 27.

On Saturday, Dec. 30, we will be closed in observance of the New Year’s holiday. We will re-open at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2024, to usher in the New Year.

Merry Christmas to you and yours!
