“Will wonders never cease?” and “Miracles do happen,” were sentiments that sprang to mind when we received non-partisan voting guides here at Rhoads Memorial Library. We beg for them yearly but are not on an automatic mailing or email list as our county’s population is too small.

So, procurement of these popular publications means trying to find some sympathetic soul via phone at the Amarillo and Lubbock chapters of the League of Women Voters and asking them to mail us a few, purloining a few from larger libraries, or printing them off the internet. At 25 cents a page, the latter option is not viable.

Anyway, someone from Pflugerville, Texas, mailed 30 of the coveted guides to us (25 in English, five in Spanish). They are available at our circulation desk, just in time as early voting begins Feb. 20 and ends March 1. The actual election day is Tuesday, March 5, featuring Texas Democratic and Republican primaries.

There are even small cards with QR codes bearing details that can be scanned into your phone. Going online at www.LWVTexas.org or VOTE411.org provides another option to be educated about the backgrounds and beliefs of each candidate.

Federal income tax forms for 2023 are here as are instruction booklets. The only forms we have are the 1040s and 1040-SRs; alternatively, you may view, download or print other forms at www.IRS.gov/ forms. We can print forms for you at 25 cents/page, too.

Youngsters may pick up February’s take-and-make kits that feature “Pool Noodle Rockets.” They came to us courtesy of Felice Acker, local agent with Texas A&M Agrilife Extension Service.

Remember we will be closed on Saturday, Feb. 17, in observance of Presidents’ Day. We will reopen at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 20. That day will feature “Cooking With Diabetes” at noon in our meeting room, led by Courtney Lowe, health extension agent with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service.

Newlyreleased books that have arrived and are ready for checkout include: -”The Bad Weather Friend” (a thriller) by Dean Koontz; -”The Ghost Orchid” (an Alex Delaware novel) by Jonathan Kellerman; -”Missing Persons” (a Private novel) by James Patterson and Adam Hamdy.

Until next week, Happy Reading!
