Replicas of Dorothy, Toto, and friends from the land of Oz can be found here at Rhoads Memorial Library as they serve as November's Display of the Month. The exhibit of dolls, memorabilia, and a well-worn copy of 'The Wizard of Oz' book by L. Frank Baum is provided by Tiffany Davis.

As we mentioned last week in 'Library Lines,' we are closed Friday and Saturday, Nov. 11-12, in observance of Veterans' Day. We will reopen at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 15.

Thanksgiving is approaching, and we will be closed Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, Nov. 24-26. We will reopen Tuesday, Nov. 29, at 9 a.m.

Speaking of Thanksgiving: as we offer thanks for whom and what we deem important, we reflect upon how much we appreciate you, the general public, for your donations of books and movies. Some recent book donations that we have added to our collection for checkout are: -'How High We Go in the Dark' (a novel) by Sequoia Nagamatsu, is a work of science fiction released earlier this year. Set in the not-todistant future of 2030, the book is described as a 'wildly original and compassionate journey that spans continents, centuries, and even celestial bodies to tell a story about the resilience of the human spirit, our infinite capacity to dream, and the connective threads that tie us all together in the universe.'

-'The Lincoln Highway' (a novel) by Amor Towles is a work of historical fiction released in late 2021. It is June 1954, when 18-year-old Emmett Watson is driven home to Nebraska by the warden of the juvenile work farm where he has just served 15 months for involuntary manslaughter.

Emmett intends to pick up his 8-year-old brother and head to California for a new beginning, but plans change when he discovers that two friends from the work farm have hidden themselves in the trunk of the warden's car. Their plans alter Emmett's future as they all go to New York City instead.

Newly released books that have arrived and are ready for checkout include: -'Triple Cross' (an Alex Cross thriller) by James Patterson; -'Livid' (a Kay Scarpetta novel) by Patricia Cornwell; -'A Christmas Deliverance' (a novel) by Anne Perry.

In closing, here is a quote by poet Joseph Brodsky: There are worse crimes than burning books. One of them is not reading them.'

Until next week, Happy Reading!
