Yuletide festivities were celebrated when Dimmitt Book Club members and guests convened in the meeting room here at Rhoads Memorial Library recently. Christmas favorites were presented as Mary Ruth Baird dressed in cowboy garb and read a children’s book by author James Rice that provided a Western take on the poem, “The Night Before Christmas.”

Afterward, sisters Laurel (Ivey) Austin of Abernathy and Zetha (Ivey) Collins of Dimmitt spiced things up with their rendition of the contemporary song, “Santa Baby.” Singing lyrics made famous by Eartha Kitt that implored Santa to bring them anything from a 1954 convertible to the deed to a platinum mine to a yacht, the duo wore appropriate costumes that were completed by red feather boas.

Turning to more sedate topics: patrons often ask us for clean, wholesome books devoid of bad language and compromising situations. As anyone who has read contemporary adult fiction knows, that is a tough request. We have been fortunate, however, to receive several Christian books via donation.

Among them are Guidepost’s series that offer mysteries. They include: -”Mysteries of Silver Peak” by author Carole Jefferson. We have all 25 books in the series.

-”Savannah Secrets,” also by various authors, are shelved under “S” in the mystery section. We have all 25 volumes.

Another series that is highly regarded is “Annie’s Quilt Mysteries.” They are penned by various authors, but they can be found together in the “A” of our mystery section.

As we mentioned last week, we will be closed for the Christmas holidays from noon Friday, Dec. 23, through Monday, Dec. 26. We will re-open at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 27.

Later that week, we will be closed on Saturday, Dec. 31, in observance of Sunday’s New Year Day. We will reopen at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2023.

May you and yours enjoy a Merry Christmas!
