The Nazareth tennis teams got an early start Tuesday in San Antonio, kicking off the state quarterfinals competition at 8 a.m., followed by the semi-finals at 2 p.m. The state championship matches were held Wednesday morning.

Naz boys doubles team Carson Heiman and Tanner Wethington faced Brayden Hernandez and Autin Hernandez from Crowell, claiming the match with a 6-1, 6-3 score. At 2 p.m. they went up against the Knippa team of Camerson Santos and Ryan Santo winning that semifinal match 6-3, 7-6. They advanced to finals the finals to go head-to-head against Wyatt Terrell and Roy Brown from Menard on Wednesday., where they fell 7-6, 6-4, but brought home the silver medals.

Naz mixed doubles team, Iris Schilderink and Caysen High won their quarterfinals round against Julia Bailey and Anthony Torres from Ector with a match score of 7-5, 6-2. They played the Mertson Irion County team of Melanie Rainey and Tate Cormier, who beat Barksdale Nueces Canyon team, 75-63. Schilderink and High lost that match 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 and will bring bronze medals home.

The Naz girls doubles team, Chloe Birkenfeld and Taylor Wethington, went into the quarterfinals against Knippa and defending champions Kayleigh Griffin and Kennedy Thompson. They lost that match 6-2, 6-1, ending their state run.
