The teams are coached by Don Bell.

The Nazareth and Dimmitt Robotics teams competed at the FTC Regionals this past weekend. Both schools will advance to the state competition.

The FTC Texas - West & Panhandle Regional Championship held at Lubbock High School is one of the biggest robotics competitions that the WCOE STEM Outreach program and the Tech RoboticsAssociation host for students. The best teams from the Lubbock, Midland, Amarillo, Abilene, San Angelo, and El Paso areas come to participate in hopes of earning a spot at the state and world championship.

Nazareth has qualified for the world championship their last two seasons, with high hopes for a third time.

Naz Team #16617 was represented by Chloe Birkenfeld, Tanner Birkenfeld, Luke Schulte, Aiden Chea, Harrison Meador, Adrian Rios, and Spencer Acker.

According to robotics coach Robert O’Conner, the team advanced to state under four qualifications: - Chloe Birkenfeld earned a place at State and Worlds; - Inspire Award, 2nd place (the premier judged award best all around); - WinningAlliance, 1st place; and - Think Award, 1st place given for an engineering portfolio/ technical writing.

Coach Robert O’Conner also won the Compass Award, due in part to a video that Chloe, Tanner, and Luke made about his coaching.

Chloe Birkenfeld is one of three regional finalists for the FTC World Championship’s Dean’s List Award and will be recognized at State and is advancing to the World Championship for a chance at one of 10 $10,000 scholarships.

Naz Robotics earned a third place for the Innovate Award.

Dimmitt High School robotics will also be traveling to the state competition.

Dimmitt had two teams competing at the FTC Regional Championship. Dimmitt Robotics Team # 12398 with Faith Bell, Daniel Duenes, Enrique, Pablo Perez and Jasiah Tavarez; and Robocat Team # 13755 with Juan Cruz, Eric Duenas, Joel Grado, and Keenan Hernandez.

According to Don Bell, coach for the DHS teams, Team #12398 went four wins and one loss in the prelims and was in seventh place and was picked to be in the first-place alliance with Bushland’s Code Blue Team# 11580 out of Bushland and Naz Robotics Team #16617. This alliance won the semifinals and advanced to the finals to win it all.

Robocat Team #13755 was in 27th in the prelims going one win and four losses. They advanced First in Texas FTC State Tournament by winning the Innovate Award with their interview by being well spoken about their robot. The Innovate Award celebrates a team that thinks imaginatively and has the ingenuity, creativity, and inventiveness to make their designs come to life Naz Team #16617 and Dimmitt Robotics #12398 will advance to the UIL Robotics State Tournament on March 24, and the First in Texas FTC State Tournament on March 25-26. Both of the state meets will be held at the Bell County Expo Center in Belton Texas.
