Rehearsing the Goodness of God

They that are delivered from the noise of archers in the places of drawing water, there shall they rehearse the righteous acts of the Lord. Judges 5:11 (KJV)

Often, we become so engrossed in the catastrophes of life that we forget the good things God has done. God is good all the time and his love endures forever, even through those trying times.

God raised Deborah up when Israel was under the hand of Sisera the Canaanite. She led a battle against their oppresses in which they were victorious. During the time of the judges, Israel was rebellious toward their God and his word resulting in not a few catastrophes. Yet, from time to time, God would raise up judges who would deliver his people. After their catastrophic suppression under the Canaanites God delivered Israel at the hand of Deborah. It was after the battle (the noise of archers) that we read they sat by still waters, rehearsing – re-hearing – the goodness of God.

Whatever catastrophes you have faced in life, whatever calamity or upheaval you face today, step back from the fray, sit beside still waters in the presence of your Lord and remind yourself of what God has done in your life. Rehearse the goodness of God. Through the valley of the shadow of death, he is your Shepheard. You will fear no evil. Goodness and mercy shall follow you all the days of your life.
