Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced last Wednesday he will send cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts $677.3 million in local sales tax allocations for April, 3.5 percent less than in April 2020.

These allocations are based on sales made in February by businesses that report tax monthly.

Texas cities will receive $436 million, down 2.7 percent from the same period in 2020. Counties received $40 million, down by 8.2 percent from the previous year.

Locally, Castro County received $16,576, up by 6.19 percent from last year’s $15,610.

Cities in the county were also up, with Dimmitt receiving $30,350, up 11.17 percent. Hart had a big increase receiving $4,192, up by 50.50 percent. Nazareth had a 7.88 percent increase at $2,379.

Many larger cities in Texas, such as Houston, Dallas, Corpus Christi, Midland and Houston also showed a lower payment than in 2020, with Midland having the highest negative change at -31.72 percent.

Amarillo, Lubbock, El Paso, Conroe, Plano and McAllen all made gains over the previous tax allocation period.
