Sheriff Sal Rivera submitted the Sheriff’s Office December and 2022 year-end report to the Castro County Commissioners Court on Jan. 9.

The Sheriff’s Office in December had 46 calls, 49 traffic citations, 63 warnings, eight traffic arrests, three criminal citations, four warrants, 31 reports and two transports.

There were 170 total calls received in Castro County in December including Sheriff’s Office, 46; Dimmitt Police Department, 61; Dimmitt ACO, eight; Texas DPS, two; fire departments, nine; and EMS, 43.

The 2022 year in totals for the Sheriff’s Office were 803 calls, 556 traffic citations, 866 warnings, 65 criminal citations, 64 traffic stop arrests, 85 arrests, 42 warrants, 320 reports and 25 transports, compared to 2021 totals of 896 calls, 439 traffi c citations, 76 traffic stop arrests, 34 criminal citations, 115 arrests, 40 warrants, 303 reports and 11 transports.

Total calls for the year 2022 for Castro County were 2,341: Sheriff’s Office, 802; Dimmitt PD, 919; Dimmitt ACO, 47; Texas DPS, 52, fire departments, 82; EMS 373; miscellaneous, 61; and DISD PD, five. Total calls in 2021 was 2,481.

For December, the average Castro County Jail inmate population was 32.35, with six transport by jail personnel. There were seven females and 22 males booked into jail. As of Jan. 2, there were 32 inmates on site and one in Bailey County. Immigration detainers included four males.

Chargesfor33inmatesforoutof- county housing and charges for December included: Floyd County inmates, 137 days at $6,850, medical reimbursement, $15.50, and damages, $41.76; Swisher County inmates, 62 days at $3,100, medical reimbursement, $300; and Bailey County inmates, 62 days at $3,100, medical reimbursement, $333.50. Total revenue from out of county inmate housing came to $13,050. Total 2022 out of county inmate housing showed revenue at $83,650 and medical reimbursement at $2,616.51.

The 2022 end of year report for Castro County Jail showed 360 people booked into jail, 288 male and 72 female and an immigration monthly average of three with all being males.

Drug seizures for December were 0.8 grams of methamphetamine and two drug paraphernalia. The 2022 totals for drug seizures were: 844.9 grams (1.8 pounds) of marijuana; 198.2 grams of methamphetamine; 510.15 grams of synthetic THC; 15.6 grams of cocaine; 13 pills/ dangerous drugs; and 25 drug paraphernalia arrests. All narcotics, controlled substances and individuals arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia are violations of the Texas Health and Safety Code Chapter 481. Most pills or tablets are prescription pain medication, or a schedule listed drug.
