Sheriff Sal Rivera presented a report to the Castro County commissioners on Monday, and said the during the month of May, the Sheriff ’s Office made 50 calls, 12 deputy assists, issued 40 citations, 65 warnings, had two criminal citations, six arrests, and five warrants and three transports.

Calls for service at other agencies during May included Dimmitt Police Department, 81; Texas DPS, three; fire departments, seven; EMS, 39; and DISD, two. Total calls for 2023 stand at 879.

Total calls assisting other agencies, 12, including Dimmitt VFD, six; Hart VFD, nine, and Nazareth VFD, seven. Calls include page outs for fires, wrecks and medical calls, natural disasters, assistance in missing persons searches and other miscellaneous calls.

The Sheriff’s Office jail Division showed 12 females and 23males booked into jail in May, with 25 on site as of June 1. There were three males held on immigration detainers. Outof- county inmate housing showed Floyd County had multiple inmates and was charged $3,900, along with damage to jail clothing and jail items at $3,793 for repairs to Separation Cell 4. Swisher County paid $1,550 to house its inmates, with an additional $115 for medical reimbursement. Total jail revenue came to $5,450. There were 14 transports made by jail personnel.

The jail made a total of 11 transports for visits to a clinic, county to county, court and the ER.

Maintenance at the jail included the vital yearly inspection; Allen’s Tristate repairs; Vital Alarm in cell F; and Mario Heating & Air checked on unit 12 and stated it needed a new motor., which he did later in the month. Additionally, Phillips Generator service worked on a cleanup. Vital repaired the smoke alarm in cell F again, water leaked through the ceiling and a sealant was placed around the hole where leakage was occurring.

The Sheriff’s Office Profiling Report showed 110 total stops, with 15 on city streets, 44 on U.S. highways, 48 on state highways and three on county roads. Ethnicity was known in two stops. There were 80 Hispanic stopped, 26 White, and four Blacks, and 39 females and 71 males.

Of all the stops made, 94 were moving traffic violations and 16 vehicle traffic violations, with 10 searches done for probable cause, and three with consent. Drug contraband was discovered in four of the searches and four arrests made based on penal code.
