Watching you

Lying in bed, when all is still, we’ve often heard an airplane flying overhead.

We can tell it’s a regularly scheduled flight because it’s always around the same time. It gets our attention, and we wonder what they carry. It might be mail or maybe important medicine… Last night I heard the plane and was reminded of a wonderful Walton’s episode.

A small plane carrying mail flew over the Walton home. The mother, Olivia, looked up into the sky and watched from their yard. The pilot had become accustomed to seeing her and tipped his wings as she waved until he was out of sight. Remembering this, I thought that we don’t realize what an impact we make on others.

If you’re a regular churchgoer, the unchurched notices as you leave for Bible study and worship services. You drive or might live close enough to walk to church. Either way, you pass by homes of many families. Little do you know that you are setting an example that some might follow one day. It’s been said that you’re the only Bible some people may ever read.

Somebody is watching you.

“Let us hold on to the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. And let us be concerned about one another in order to promote love and good works, not staying away from our worship meetings, as some habitually do, but encouraging each other, and all the more as you see the day drawing near (Hebrews 10:23-25 HCSB).”
