Drunk driver crashes with ACU bus

A man was arrested following a crash involving an Abilene Christian University bus and SUV this past Saturday.According to the Lubbock Police Department, four people were injured in the crash following the ACU game against Texas Tech, including one student-athlete, two coaches and the bus driver.

Texas Representative Ken King will be touring a segment of House District 88 to discuss the upcoming 89th Regular Legislative Session, including a meeting in Dimmitt.King will be meeting with constituents and voters in Castro County on Sept. 12 at the Dimmitt City Hall from 1 to 2 p.m.

Sheriff Sal Rivera seeks re-election

Sheriff Sal Rivera announced that he is running for re-election as Sheriff of Castro County in the upcoming General Election on Nov. 5.Rivera was appointed to the Office of Sheriff by the Castro County Commissioners Court on Dec. 26, 2006, upon the retirement of Sheriff C.D. Fitzgearld.

Paxton launches illegal voting tipline

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton issued a legal advisory on election integrity and launched an email tipline where the public may report suspected violations of Texas election law.
After a 10-month wait, the Castro County Sheriff’s Office acquired two new 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe patrol units purchased with the SB 22 Rural Sheriffs Grant Funding. Sheriff Sal Rivera said they traveled To Argyle, Texas to pick them up on Aug. 29. Rivera said the vehicles were purchased from Defender Supply, which specializes in law enforcement patrol vehicles, in October 2023. The only cost incurred to the citizens of Castro County were traveling expenses to pick the new vehicles up.
