Texas Financial Crimes Intelligence Center opens

The state’ Financial Crimes Intelligence Center, which will coordinate law enforcement investigations into credit card skimmers, officially opened today in Tyler during a ceremony at the center. House Bill 2106 (87th Texas Legislature, regular session) created the FCIC, which will operate as a partnership between the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation and the Smith County District Attorney’s Office.

Jimenez passes state dispatcher test

Emilio Jimenez, 2018 DHS graduate, recently passed the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement State Exam taken on Jan. 6 to become a fully licensed telecommunicator operator/dispatcher. In order to become licensed as a peace officer, county jailer, or telecommunicator in Texas, applicants, four requirements must be met and include meeting the minimum standards for enrollment and initial licensure; successful completion of the basic licensing course; passing of the state licensing examination; and appointment by a law enforcement agency. Jimenez currently works for the Sheriff’s Office Dispatch and has since May 10, 2021.

Hobbs woman charged; puts newborn in dumpster

A Hobbs, New Mexico woman has been charged with attempted murder and child abuse after she confessed to leaving her newborn child in a dumpster. In a press conference by the Hobbs Police Department, HPD thanked three people who said they were searching for valuables in the dumpster when they discovered the infant and called 911.

Sheriff gives monthly, year-end report at Commissioners Court

Castro County Sheriff Sal Rivera gave his monthly report for December at Commissioners Court and reported a total of 204 calls for December. In December, the Castro County Sheriff’s Office received 90 (44.1%) of the total; with the Dimmitt Police Department receiving 72 (35%); EMS, 27 (13.2%); Dimmitt ACO, one call; Texas DPS, two calls; fire departments, seven calls; and miscellaneous, five calls.
