Despite tornadoes, blizzard warnings, warm weather, high winds, and chilly rain that we have experienced in the course of the last few days, we have been busy here at Rhoads Memorial Library. Cataloguing, then shelving, new books for checkout has been done along with vigorous spring cleaning not only in the library proper but in our meeting room. As the weather warms up, we can tackle the weeds outside!

I read an article yesterday about a teacher going through chemotherapy that is still working. In fact she takes her computer to the chemo treatments because she loves what she does so much that she will not allow her circumstances to deter her love of teaching her students.

RES College Week features coloring contest

Richardson Elementary School recently had college week at their campus with the wrapping up with a college jersey coloring contest. “College Week gives students a chance to think about becoming their best selves and making their dreams a reality,” said Kendra Cantrell, Communities in Schools Site Coordinator.

HHSC expands visitation to nursing facilities

The Texas Health and Human Services Commission is expanding visitation statewide in nursing facilities and other long-term care settings, effective March 23. Per federal guidance issued March 10 by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, fully vaccinated nursing facility residents are now allowed close, in-person visits with family members and friends who are not designated essential caregivers, as long as proper safeguards are in place.

Amazon warehouse coming to Amarillo

The Amarillo EDC announced the new 1-million square foot Amazon warehouse is officially coming to the city early next year. It will create over 500 new full-time jobs in the community with a starting wage of $15 an hour.
