Vaccination exemptions rise in students

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, fewer children are entering kindergarten fully vaccinated.The CDC found that during the 2024-25 school year, 4.1 percent of kindergartners (about 138,000 kids) had a vaccine exemption, surpassing the previous high of 3.

The 2025 version of our Summer Reading Program here at Rhoads Memorial Library ended last Friday after an eightweek run. A total of 104 Castro County youngsters registered in the event; Hart and Nazareth increased their participation over last year while Dimmitt’s participation declined.

Former Dimmit High School player and coach Jeff Bell has been inducted into the Texas High School Basketball Hallof Fame. The Class of 2026 includes legendary high school coaches and standout prep players in the Lone Star State.

State sales tax revenue $4.2B in July

Acting Texas Comptroller Kelly Hancock today said state sales tax revenue totaled $4.19 billion in July, 4.9 percent more than in July 2024. The majority of July sales tax revenue is based on sales made in June and remitted to the agency in July.
