Castro County 4-H and Keep Texas Beautiful Youth Ambassador Spencer Acker gave the Castro County AgriLife Extension Office a facelift recently. For his capstone ambassador project, Acker installed two raised beds and two rain barrels for the extension programs and also did some weeding out along the fence line in the back.

Measles cases climb to 505, three deaths

The Texas Department of State Health Services confirmed 505 cases in the West Texas measles outbreak, with a third reported death on Tuesday.Gaines County, the center of the outbreak, reports 315 cases, with 33 cases in Lubbock County and another eight counties with reported cases.

Despite some challenging weather, the 2025 Ogallala Quilt Festival was held this past weekend, April 4-5. It was the 27th festival hosted by the Ogallala Quit Society which was formed 28 years ago.The main event was held at the Dimmitt High School Activities Center, with other exhibits around town.
Nazareth Ag teacher and FFA Advisor Austin Heck, shown with daughters Izzy and Gabby, received the AgTexas Ag Youth Leader of Year award. Heck is one of three nominees to be awarded the recognition in Texas this year. Heck has led students to multiple state wins in ag contests and state single teacher chapter awards as well having students go on to universities to compete nationally in ag competitions.
