Ike and Corabeth Godsey were owners/operators of the General Mercantile on Walton’s Mountain. The Walton’s frequently featured the couple in episodes. Harriet and Nels Oleson were in charge of the Walnut Grove Mercantile on Little House on the Prairie. Program writers recognized the importance of the family-owned businesses in story lines.

Heitschmidt competes with WTAMU Meat Judging team in Houston

In the last contest of the 2023 winter and spring season, the WTAMU Meat Judging team competed at the Houston Livestock Show and Intercollegiate Meat Judging Contest and won third place. The WTAMU team place third overall, first and fifth in beef grading, first in total beef, second in lambs, first in pork, first and second in reasons and third in placings.

Bobbies lifters capture Regional title

The Dimmitt Bobbies powerlifters competed at the THSWPA Region 1 – 3A Regionals meet and brought home the team trophy and qualified five girls to compete at the state meet. The Regional meet was held in Shamrock on Saturday, with 12 schools competing and ??? athletes participating to trip to Frisco for state titles.

Authored by Texas state Sen. Lois Kolkhorst, RBrenham, a bill restricting land ownership in Texas by entities from China and three other countries for security reasons received some push back on claims that the proposal would be discriminatory.

Birkenfeld wins Lone Star Writing contest

Nazareth’s Chloe Birkenfeld recently won the Lone Star Journalism Writing contest co-sponsored by the Interscholastic League Press Conference and Texas Press Association. Birkenfeld, the editor and writer for Nazareth’s Paw Prints, received first place in the Small School Division (1A-3A) with an article she wrote about Charley Hill that was featured in the Paw Prints.

USTA challenges GMO Ban

In reaction to Mexico’s decision to ban genetically modifi ed corn and other agricultural biotechnology products, United States Trade Representative (USTR) Katherine Tai announced that the United States is taking enforcement action against Mexico for undermining the United States-Mexico-Canada Trade Agreement (USMCA) trade commitment and requesting technical consultations with Mexico.
