County under severe to extreme drought

The U.S Drought Monitor last Thursday released an updated map for the United States, showing much of Texas suffering under moderate to extreme drought condition. Castro County is under a severe to extreme drought, as is neighboring Parmer County.

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced he will send cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose districts $1 billion in local sales tax allocations for March, 9.9 percent more than in March 2022.
