April designated Child Abuse Prevention Month

County Judge Mandy Gfeller and commissioners gave their seal of approval for a resolution name April as Child Abuse Prevention Month. The resolutions states that child abuse and neglect in the county are a serious problem affecting every segment of the community and finding solutions requires input and action from everyone.

Texas Senate approves law enforcement grants

Counties with fewer than 300,000 residents could receive up to half a million dollars in state grants per year to hire more officers under a bill approved unanimously by the Senate on Tuesday. Muenster Senator Drew Springer from Muenster says that in many rural counties, all law enforcement duties are handled by a handful of sheriff’s deputies because these counties don’t have the the tax base, to pay for needed public safety services.

State unemployment rate rising

The Texas Workforce Commission released state data on February unemployment, showing seasonally adjusted rates up slightly at 4.5%. Texas added 58,200 positions in February 2023, leading the nation in jobs added over the month.

Here at Rhoads Memorial Library, we see people representing the entire socioeconomic spectrum ranging from homelessness to being wealthy as well as those of different ethnicities, races and religions. We never know who will come through our front door.

Fueling the fires of faith

He had been invited by his friend, Keith to ride in the cab of a steam engine. The fire roared and the engine steamed forward a great pace along the track.
