and Imogene (Higgins) Whitehead. He attended and graduated from Hereford High School before continuing his education at Texas Tech University. In 1955, Charles met and married Laura Jane Lamm, and together they moved to San Angelo, where they lived for seven years. Afterward, Charles returned to his hometown of Hereford, where he worked as a stockbroker and realtor, and also contributed during the harvest season at the local sugar beet plant. In 1979, Charles relocated to Austin, Texas, where he continued his career in real estate and eventually earned his broker’s license. Seeking to be closer to his daughter, Charles soon relocated to Houston. Although he entered semi-retirement, he continued to remain active by working as a school bus driver. Later, Charles and his daughter settled in Tucumcari, New Mexico, where he retired. Eventually, they made their home together in Logan, New Mexico.
Charles had a passion for singing and was known for his beautiful voice. He cherished simple pleasures such as drinking coffee, sharing stories, and spending time visiting with his friends and family. Charles also enjoyed working on crossword puzzles and took great pride in being a devoted grandfather to his granddaughter, Jessica. His warm presence and gentle nature will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish his memories are his children; Sondra Thomas of Logan, NM., and Rick Whitehead and his wife Jane of Wedowee, Alabama; three grandchildren, Jessica Dalton and her husband John, Emily Whitehead and Sarah Whitehead; several cousins; Mike Watts and his wife Judy, Billy Russell Watts all of Hereford, and Wendel Wilson of Dawn, Texas, and Marty Higgins of Amarillo, and his step-brother, Jabe Wills and his wife Cathy of Prescott, Arizona.
Charles is preceded in death by his parents, and his grandparents, Claude and Laura Higgins and Charles and Georgia B. Whitehead.
