1955-2026
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Chris Marnell Hartley, who departed this world on June 21, 2026.
Chris was born on October 12, 1955 in Canyon, Texas. She was a beloved wife, sister, aunt and friend whose warmth, kindness and unwavering love touched the lives of all who knew her. Chris had a remarkable gift for making everyone feel welcomed, valued and loved.
Her joy of life, infectious smile, contagious laughter and countless quiet acts of kindness left an enduring mark on the hearts of many. She cherished traveling and especially loved spending time in Ruidoso, New Mexico, a place that brought her great happiness and peace.
Chris devoted much of her professional life to caring for others. She was a Hereford graduate of the class of 1974. She completed her vocational nursing training and earned her LVN license, beginning a career marked by compassion, dedication and service to others. She served for many years as an LVN at the Hereford Clinic. Later, she worked with the Hereford WIC Program where she continued to touch lives until her retirement.
Chris was a devoted member of the Fellowship of Believers Church in Hereford, where her faith was evident in the way she lived and loved.
She is survived by the love of her life and devoted husband, Alton Hartley. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary earlier this year. She is also survived by her brother David Marnell of Hereford; her sister Dorie Marnell of Garland; Brother in law Larry Minks of Ardmore, OK and sister in law Lisa Marnell of Amarillo, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Speck and Edna Marnell; her sister Joan Minks and her brother Tom (T.J.) Marnell.
Graveside services celebrating Chris’s life are pending and will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fellowship of Believers Church or the Hereford Senior Citizen’s Center.
Though our hearts ache in her absence, we find comfort in the legacy of love, grace, faith and kindness that she leaves behind. The memories she created, the lives she touched and the love she shared will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her. Chris will be forever loved, forever remembered and forever missed.
