Dress those doves opening day and enjoy appetizers of the outdoors
OPENING DAY CLASSIC--Dove poppers, made with the two sides of dove breast, cream cheese tucked into a half jalapeno and wrapped in thin bacon are an opening day classic Texas taste treat as dove season begins.
FRY CAREFULLY-- For delicious fried dove nuggets dip each dove breast into flour first, then egg. Heat oil until it reaches 350°F to 375°F. Add a few breasts at a time and fry until golden brown-approximately 30 to 45 seconds.
Dove season opens statewide on September 1. That’s going to make a lot of sporting goods retailers and shotshell companies happy. Nationwide, an average Hunter fires five to nine shells per bagged dove, meaning a standard 15bird limit often takes 75 to over 100 shells.
Experienced or skilled wingshots often average closer to three shots per bird or 2.5 to three shells per dove on a great day.
