Long awaited El Niño moisture finally interrupts drought
WEST 15TH WASHED OUTHeavy rains in and around Hereford left water gushing down county roads that had no drainage ditches to carry the load. The aftermath of heavy washing on West 15th near a Deaf Smith Electric Cooperative substation is evident here.
Long-awaited El Nino moisture finally arrived. It didn’t come in time for the summer crop growing season, but a wet weather front last week may not have broken the drought plaguing much of the Panhandle this summer but thoroughly interrupted the dryness.
The bountiful rain came too late for grain crops but gives a fantastic boost to early planted wheat and should boost some late forage crops.
