Swiftettes fall to Sandstorms, 67-45

The Nazareth Swiftettes fell to Amarillo Golden Sandstorms, 67-45, in one of their first games this year.

As is tradition at Nazareth, a 1A school, the Swiftettes took on a large school early in the season. Amarillo is a 5A school.

The Sandstorms took a narrow lead in the first quarter over the Swiftettes in the first quarter, 18-14, and continued to outscore Nazareth in the second, closing the first half out 35-20.

The third quarter saw the Swiftettes scoring nine points to the Sandstorms 18, and outscoring Amarillo in the fourth quarter 16-14, but not enough to overtake the lead. Amarillo claimed the win, 67-45.

Top shooters for Nazareth were Merry Gerber with 11 points, seven rebounds, three assists, two steals and four blocks; Jaden Pigg with eight points, four rebounds, and one block; Addie Dyer with eight points; Emma Kleman with six points, three re bounds, four assists, one steal and one block; Iris Schilderink with six points, three rebounds and one block; Makenzy Corrales with four points, three rebounds, two assists and one steal; and Harley Gerber with two points and three rebounds. Presley Wheeler came through with one rebound.

The Swiftettes will face Vega on Nov. 13.
