Lawyer was born Aug. 5, 1954 in Clarkwood, Texas to Selso and Felicitas (Castillo) Leyja. He met the love of his life Maria Eva Sanchez in Hart 30 years ago. Lawyer was a hard worker and did whatever he could to provide for his family. Even though the children were not his biological children, he took them in and was the best father they could ask for. Not only was he the best father, he was a wonderful husband to Maria, the favorite uncle to all his nieces and nephews, and he was also the best grandpa to his grandchildren.

During his free time, Lawyer loved to spend time with his wife, even if it was just going for a car ride. He also loved to sing and dance. He was always singing with his sister, Guadalupe. He will be greatly missed by many.

Those left to cherish his memories are his wife, Maria Eva Sanchez of Plainview; his two daughters, Cynthia Bermea and husband Rey of Nazareth and Mary Sanchez of Plainview; his five sons, Jamie Sanchez and wife Emily of Conroe, Joe Sanchez of Plainview, Billy Sanchez of Olton, Tony Sanchez and wife Griselda of Minnesota, and Louis Gonzales of Amarillo; four sisters, Guadalupe L. Luna of Hereford, Elva L. Garcia of Garland, Frances L. Luna of Dimmitt, and Janie L. Hatfield of Panora, Iowa; one brother, David Leyja of Eastland; 23 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Lawyer is preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Dominga Bautista, Alicia Leyja, Dorotea Leyja; and three brothers, Jesus Leyja, Gilberto Leyja and Doroteo Leyja.
