Novella Frances Barfknecht, 101, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 7, 2021, at Concho Health and Rehab Center in Eden, Texas. Due to Covid 19 restrictions, a private family graveside service officiated by the Rev. Mike Thomson was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, at Eden Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Eden Funeral Home.

Novella was born on April 6, 1919, to Eleanor (Chew) and G.W. Harwell at their home east of Eden. After attending Brady Valley School, she graduated from Eden High School in 1936, then married Max F. Barfknecht on Nov. 14, 1936. A member of First United Methodist Church, she was a homemaker who lived in or near Eden all her life.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Max; a daughter, Maxine McClure; an infant granddaughter, Novella Madge Barfknecht; a brother, Coleman Harwell; and two sisters, Iveta Harwell and Juanita Balkum.

She is survived by a son and his wife, Tony and Susie Barfknecht of Eden; a daughter and her husband, Gaye and Pat Reily of Dimmitt, Texas; a grandson, Don Barfknecht of Eden; a granddaughter and her husband, Mindy and Gary Speck, of Eden; two greatgrandchildren; and four greatgreat-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be made to Eden Public Library, Hospice of San Angelo, or a favorite charity.
