On April 13, 1926 in Tulia, Texas, Clarence and Annie Fay Byrnes became the parents of Allorah (Joey) Byrnes. Joey joined her brother, Clarence Max (Buster) and her sister, Oida. Completing the family was her younger brother, Edwin .

Joey was a consummate scholar. In her early life, she attended school in Dimmitt. By the age of 16, Joey had received her pilot license and high school diploma. Pursing the lofty realm of higher education, she found herself in college in Canyon. She finished her degree at Texas Tech University and went on to receive her Master’s degree at Denver University. It’s no wonder she was a loved and respected teacher for over 30 years.

In retirement, she enjoyed genealogy and traveling the world. Joey was once asked what her favorite country was , she replied, “The United States, of course.”
