Jean was born on July 13, 1931, to Winnie Ola (Creamer) and Willie Homer Vining near Paducah in the Chalk community. She was the baby sister to five sisters and one brother. Her sisters were her best friends, and her big brother was her favorite playmate.Although she was the youngest of a very close family, she became the matriarch and had many years of great times. She was baptized at the age of 13 at 10th & Columbia Church of Christ in Plainview.

She passed away on July 12, 2023, one day shy of her 92nd birthday. The final days she was surrounded by the love and comfort of Stanley, Jackie, Poppy, Jerry, Brad and Kay.

Jean gave birth to a son, Stanley Ray Byrnes and 18 months later a daughter Paula Kay (Poppy) Byrnes. The three of them lived in Dimmitt where Jean met and married Bob DuLaney in 1968. When Jean married Bob, she also became Mama Jean to Brad, Vicki, Cherry and Bob Don. She loved all her children and was well loved by all of them. Bob and Jean farmed in Dimmitt and eventually moved to Austin. After Bob’s retirement, they moved to Lubbock and spent many wonderful years chasing kids, grandkids and each other. Later in life, Bob and Jean made the move to Amarillo, Texas to be closer to Stanley and Poppy.

Jean was known as Mom and Mama Jean to her kids and grandkids. She took pride in her cooking and baking skills and loved to prepare big, family meals. Breakfast at Mama Jean’s always meant the “Big Breakfast” and no one ever left her house hungry. She loved spending time at the lake and making sure all her kids and grandkids had wonderful memories of growing up at the lake. She made sure to try to be at sporting events and activities for her kids and grandkids. Bob and Jean travelled and were always up for any type of adventure. She was always one to save a penny and never let a piece of foil, a used shopping bag or an empty butter container go to waste. You could always count on Mama Jean for a hug, a hidden treasure or good story. The only time that you were not allowed to bother her was when Wheel of Fortune was on TV.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents in 1985. She was also preceded in death by her siblings and their spouses, Faye Findley, Thelma Watts, Ava Mae Cox, Pat Freeman, Jody Kirkpatrick and Glenn Vining.

Jean is survived by her husband Bob DuLaney of Amarillo; and children, Stanley Ray Byrnes and wife Jackie of Amarillo, Paula Kay (Poppy) Elbert and husband Jerry of Hereford, Joe Brad DuLaney and wife Kay of Bossier City, Louisiana, Vicki Moceo and husband Carl of Jacksonville, Texas, Cherry DuLaney and husband Al Franklin of Morro Bay, California, and Bob Don DuLaney and wife Pam of Colleyville, Texas.

Mama Jean will be greatly missed by her grandchildren, Tyler James (TJ) Head and wife Teresa, Jake Head, Rala Underwood and husband Jason, Tate Head and wife Kami, Dallas DuLaney, Chace DuLaney and wife Jordan, Brady DuLaney and wife Victoria, Daina Bartlett and husband Trent, Mac Shugart, Trish Schnakenberg and husband Benjamin, Lee Colvin, Travis DuLaney and wife Leslie and Trey DuLaney and wife Elizabeth.
